GOMS, GOMS+, and PDL

چکیده
The expressiveness of the GOMS language for describing “how-to” knowledge determines what kinds of human activities can be captured by a GOMS task analysis. This paper addresses the adequacy of this framework for representing human behavior in realistically time-pressured, uncertain, and otherwise demanding task environments. Several improvements have been incorporated into a GOMS-like formalism called Procedure Description Language (PDL) and into a simple GOMS extension called GOMS+.

Modeling Human-Robot Interaction with GOMS
The Goals, Operators, Methods, and Selection rules (GOMS) method is a well-established means of modeling the procedures that humans use to interact with technology. We focus on two questions: what is different about using GOMS for human-robot interaction (HRI) versus using GOMS for traditional computer applications, and what are promising approaches for using GOMS to evaluate competing HRI desi...
متن کاملThe GOMS Family of Analysis Techniques: Tools for Design and Evaluation
Since the seminal Card, Moran, & Newell (1983) book, The psychology of human-computer interaction, the concept of the GOMS model has been one of the few widely known theoretical concepts in human-computer interaction. This concept has spawned much research to verify and extend the original concept and has been used in real-world design and evaluation situations. The original presentation of the...
متن کاملInformation-Requirements Grammar: A Theory of the Structure of Competence for Interaction
In this paper, we argue that existing languages for representing routine cognitive tasks (such as GOMS, UAN, and PDL) can fail either because they demand that task competence is described using serial position to determine temporal order (and they are therefore overly restrictive) or because they demand that partial orderings are specified with temporal dependencies and other logical relationsh...
متن کاملAutomated GOMS-to-ACT-R model generation (Best applied paper)
We describe a system, G2A, that produces ACT-R models from GOMS models containing hierarchical methods, visual and memory stores, and control constructs. Because GOMS is a more abstract formalism than ACT-R, a single GOMS operator might be plausibly translated in different ways into ACT-R productions (e.g., a GOMS Look-for operator might be carried out by different visual search strategies in A...
